Simone Stivi
I’m a plein-air artist based in Southern California, devoted to capturing the presence and spirit of the natural world.
My work is rooted in direct observation - created on site using ballpoint pen, micron, ink wash, and gouache on handmade, cold-pressed cotton paper.
Each piece is an intimate study of place, shaped by light, time, and the living landscape.
Traveling and living out of my van, I move through California’s wild spaces in pursuit of connection to the natural world through art.
Created with intention and deep respect for the environment, my work reflects a reverence for the natural world and a desire to preserve and honor it.
My current body of work, Chasing the Champion Trees of California, captures the state’s largest and most storied native trees - ancient beings that stand as witnesses to history and anchors of their ecosystems.
Over two months of solo travel, I sought out each tree individually, creating these drawings in their presence and carrying the energy of the land and the quiet gravity of each one.
Beyond my work as an artist, I am passionate about creating spaces for women to connect with the outdoors. I run a women’s hiking group, fostering community, confidence, and a shared sense of exploration.
While my gatherings bring women into nature, my art offers a way to bring that experience home.
